Schumacher to Alfa Romeo next year? 'May call for better cockpit'
Mick Schumacher could be an option for Alfa Romeo in 2022. The driver is currently at Haas F1 where things are struggling, while both Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi do not yet have a deal for 2022 at Alfa Romeo.
Little commitment to Haas
Haas already said from the beginning of 2021 that the focus is entirely on next season's car. Only the necessary adjustments have been made compared to last year to make the car legal in 2021 and it also has a new lick of paint. When Schumacher was asked at RTL if he would stay with Haas next season he and his manager Sabine Kehm showed little commitment to the American team.
According to RTL reporter Felix Görner, it is clear that Schumacher may enter talks with other teams. "There are very clear clauses from Kehm and Ferrari that he may be called if there is another, better cockpit available somewhere," he reveals at the German RTL.
So who should leave at Alfa Romeo?
Raikkonen and Giovinazzi are not yet sure of their seats in 2021. The two drivers will form Alfa Romeo's driver pair for the third year in a row. Raikkonen is currently 41 and seems to be heading towards the end of his F1 career. Giovinazzi would like to stay but has had unstable results. Schumacher could therefore replace one of the two drivers.
The question remains if the Alfa Romeo car will be faster than the Haas car in 2022. At the moment Haas is by far the slowest team, but because they have started building the new car early they could overtake Alfa Romeo heading in to the next season.
