Mercedes has extended Lewis Hamilton's contract, but the hardest decision is yet to be made: Who will be Hamilton's teammate? Will it be George Russell, or will it be Valtteri Bottas again?

Not for the first time in his career Bottas is under a magnifying glass. Previously the Finn had to compete with Esteban Ocon for the seat at Mercedes and now Russell puts the pressure on. It is neck and neck between the two, but Nico Hulkenberg and Marc Surer believe that the team should go for Russell.

Russell the future of Mercedes

''From Mercedes's point of view, it makes a lot of sense to bring Russell in, since Bottas also seems a bit burned out,'' Hulkenberg said according to Formel1.de. In a video from the same medium, Surer also addresses the situation at Mercedes. According to him, Mercedes has no better option than to choose Russell.

''Toto Wolff has to think about the future. He needs a driver when Hamilton decides to quit. That's why he can really only choose Russell. He can give him a contract as a second driver. He'll sign anyway if he gets to sit in that car, but Toto really has to think about the future, otherwise you have to get two drivers at once'', the Swiss concluded.
