Perez waned more in qualifying: "P2 was definitely possible"
Following Valtteri Bottas' penalty, Sergio Perez will move up one place to P4 on the grid for the Styrian Grand Prix. The Mexican struggled at the start of the qualifying session but found improvements in time for Q3. The Red Bull driver says P2 was possible.
Wanting more
"Well I think we were so far away in qualifying 1, we had to use a second set. The car was pretty much nowhere. In my Q3 lap on used tyres, it was looking pretty good. When we went onto the new tyre, it was a complicated lap. The tyres were too cold in the beginning. I think P2 was possible definitely, but unfortunately, we didn't put it together where we could. But the race is long tomorrow," Perez told Sky Sports.
At the start of the season, Perez failed to escape from Q2 with the medium compound tyres. On the Red Bull Ring, Perez came out on the soft tyres for Q2 meaning he will start the race on these. According to Perez, the soft tyres are his best option. Max Verstappen will start on the mediums which gives Red Bull a mix of strategies to attack Mercedes.
"Mediums was never on the agenda for us. We believe the softs are the fastest strategy tomorrow," he added.
