Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is very satisfied with Friday's race in France, but thinks Red Bull Racing has a better total package. This despite Mercedes being fastest in FP1 and just behind Max Verstappen in FP2.

Good start to the weekend, but Red Bull is better

For Mercedes it is important that the team in France catches up with rivals Red Bull. In the last two races the German team hardly scored any points. The start in France is in any case positive. "We had a good day. That was important to get off to a good start," Wolff tells Motorsport-Total.com.

"I think we have a fast car. Maybe not fast enough, but definitely a good start to the weekend. I don't think anything has changed over the course of the season. Red Bull has the fastest package, we have to acknowledge that," Wolff continued.

Mercedes' problems

Mercedes' car struggles especially in the slower corners, which is why the team didn't come out very strong in Monaco. "This time we knew that the car didn't necessarily fit the track," he said. But that doesn't necessarily mean the problems at a faster circuit like Paul Ricard just disappeared.

"You can't generalise it like that. You already worry if that's an innate problem or just the track layout. on some circuits you see it very clearly, on others a little less," Wolff concludes.
