Due to the cancellation of the Singapore Grand Prix, Formula 1 has to look for a new venue in October. According to several media, the Circuit of The Americas was one of the main candidates to take over the vacant seat, although circuit chairman Bobby Epstein was surprised. Nevertheless, he is in favour of an extra race.

Epstein didn't see the rumour coming last week. "It was a complete surprise to hear that and to read that in the press," Epstein explained in conversation with RACER explained. "And I think if it was intended then the way you would know that it wasn’t pure speculation is we would have been prepared for all the incoming questions and calls and requests for tickets and vendors and track rentals who all had questions about what’s happening."

The president did have conversations with Formula One in recent weeks, but they were informational in nature as far as an additional race was concerned. Epstein was only asked if the circuit would be open to a second race. "We’ve talked since but not really on that subject because I don’t think they’re really at the point where they’re ready to discuss that. I have the feeling they have their hands full," said Epstein, who sees an additional race as a possibility. "If it were good for the sport we’d do all we could do, and I think it would be good."

Second GP of America

This season's GP of America is scheduled for Sunday, October 24. So it is possible that there will be an additional race. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has also been a possibility in recent days.
