Perez father critical of McLaren: 'The opposite at Red Bull'
- GPblog.com
Sergio Perez took his first win for Red Bull Racing in Azerbaijan last weekend. Perez's father is very proud and also shares a small sneer at McLaren, the team where the now 31-year-old driver raced in 2013.
According to Antonio Perez Garibay, the pressure to perform was a lot greater at the Woking-based racing stable. "If you ask me at what stage Checo had more pressure, it was at McLaren, when he had a car that wasn't competitive and they asked you for results. In this team (Red Bull) it's the opposite, they ask for results but give you weapons to go forward."
Perez signed a multi-year contract in 2013 to replace Lewis Hamilton. However, the car was not good enough to compete for podiums. That was no excuse, however, as Perez was unceremoniously bumped out a year later.
Perez's father observes that Perez feels comfortable at Red Bull and that he is getting used to the new environment. "I see a Checo who is much more relaxed, who understands his car, a Checo who knows what he is doing," he told Marca.
Father of Sergio Perez on the radio
"Veo un Checo mucho más relajado que está entendiendo su auto. And Red Bull se piden resultados pero te dan armas para estar e ir hacia adelante"
