The first race has already been completed on the street circuit in Baku. Formula 2 is also running in Azerbaijan this weekend and will have three races. On Saturday morning the first race was driven, with a messy opening lap and successes for the junior team of Ferrari and a Dutch driver.

Robert Shwartzman, driver for Prema and junior in the Ferrari program, started from pole and immediately drove away from the competition. The Russian driver was never really put under pressure and also set the fastest lap. Behind the Russian however, there was plenty going on. Williams-reserve driver Jack Aitken hit the wall and the man of yesterday, Liam Lawson, retired after a collision with Oscar Piastri.

Visceral in the points and on pole

Dan Ticktum and Guanyu Zhou also made it onto the podium for their second and third place finishes. Red Bull-junior Jehan Daruvala fell just short of the podium in fourth position. Theo Pourchaire was hugely strong in Monaco and showed his speed again in Baku, finishing fifth. On Saturday afternoon the F2-drivers will take to the track again, for the second sprint race. Dutchman Bent Viscaal will start from pole for that race, as he managed tenth place.
