Are the much talked about 'flexi-wings' legal or not? Mercedes and Red Bull Racing are diametrically opposed in this matter, but it seems that Toto Wolff has to cautiously admit that the title rival has indeed worked according to the regulations when designing the rear wing.

If the medium ÖSTERREICH says to Wolff in an interview that Helmut Marko is threatening to come up with a protest against the front wing of Mercedes' W12, Wolff seems to back down a bit. "It's all good. Nobody wants to protest, in Formula 1 it's about a fight on the track."

The logical next question is of course how Mercedes feels about it and what will happen now. What is clear is that the German formation still does not agree with Red Bull Racing's flexible rear wing. "The FIA has to be robust in its interpretation. There should be no excessive flexiwings in Baku, then it fits."

Stricter controls in France

From the French Grand Prix onwards, the International Motorsport Federation is going to check more strictly on the use of the 'flexi-wings'. Mercedes calls on the FIA to come up with clear demands. At the Paul Ricard circuit we will then see if the rear wing of the RB16B is satisfactory or not.
