FP1 full results: Ferrari fast in Baku, Mercedes still holding back
- GPblog.com
For the first time since 2019, the Formula One drivers will drive on the street circuit of Azerbaijan again. In 2020, the race could not take place due to the coronavirus crisis, but fortunately for the fans and the teams, they will drive on the streets of Baku again this weekend. Max Verstappen showed on Friday morning that he has the speed again.
He set the fastest time in a dusty Baku, where it was still searching for grip. Although both Ferrari drivers were worried about their chances after Monaco, they seemed to be on the right track in Baku. Charles Leclerc set the second-fastest time, followed by his Spanish teammate Carlos Sainz. Verstappen's teammate, Sergio Perez, set the fourth-fastest time.
Mercedes were slightly disappointing, with seventh and tenth places for Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. Besides Ferrari, McLaren seems to be on the right track again. Daniel Ricciardo was faster than Lando Norris, the Australian set the fifth time, while Norris set the eighth. This afternoon at 13:00 UK time the F1-cars will take to the track again, for the second free practice.
