The duel between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is truly a reality for the first time this year. Red Bull seem to have had the car from the start of the season to challenge Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes, and Timo Glock, analyst for Sky Sports Germany, believes the battle is exactly what the sport needs.

According to the German, Verstappen's victory in Monaco is the best thing that could have happened to F1. This he says in an interview with Speedweek.com. "Nothing could have happened to Formula 1 fans better than Max Verstappen winning the Monaco GP. At Mercedes, for the first time in ages, not everything was running smoothly. It showed that even the world championship team can make small mistakes that have a big impact. For the tension in the World Championship fight, it could not have been better."

"Verstappen had great speed during the Monaco weekend and he didn't make any mistakes," continued the German. "Looking at the free practice sessions he even had some bad luck with traffic and rarely had a free lap. In qualifying, the pole was stolen from him as his last attempt was thwarted by the Leclerc accident. The Dutchman didn't let that ruin his weekend. And that's the crucial point for me: with this in mind he has learned a lot. He approaches things much calmer and more controlled now than before."

Hamilton vs Verstappen

After five races, we can say that the fight between Hamilton and Verstappen is getting more and more intense. However, the fight is far from over. In fact, it's only just begun, as Glock knows. He is looking forward to the rest of the season.

"Now it depends on how Mercedes learns its lessons from this weekend. We know that Mercedes has always built a car that works on 90 per cent of the circuits. There are rarely circuits like Monaco where Mercedes doesn't look as good because the longer wheelbase is a disadvantage on such tracks. You noticed that especially with Lewis Hamilton at the weekend."
