'I still think Hamilton was insecure'

For three years Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton were teammates at McLaren. Button remembers Hamilton well and says the seven-time world champion wasn't always so confident.
Using social media
"He has come a long way, he really has," Button begins in conversation with PlanetF1.com. "He had a lot of insecurities in the past with racing, I remember the time he thought I’d unfollowed him on social media when we were team-mates." Hamilton in turn made a post on social media saying he thought they were better friends. A little later, the Brit came back to it and then said that Button had never followed Hamilton.
When Button and Hamilton were teammates, both drivers had a world title. For Button, it stayed with that one title, while Hamilton scored six more. "But I’m actually really impressed with how far Lewis has come, he’s got a massive following, he’s going to have a massive following, he’s a seven-time World Champion."
Action on and off the track
"He is going to achieve more than possibly any F1 driver has this year in F1, and he’s using it for good, and I like to see that" Button continued. The former F1 driver is referring to the actions Hamilton often does off the track, such as the 'Black Lives Matter' shirts.
Despite the seven world titles, Button maintains: "I still think there were insecurities but this year he seems so much more relaxed and it’s great to see. He has really used his voice for good."
