After Max Verstappen's win at the Monaco Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing is finally back in the lead in both the drivers' and constructors' championships. According to team boss Christian Horner, Red Bull has come out of the coronavirus pandemic stronger.

Championship Leaders

The last time Red Bull was first in the championship was in 2013, when Sebastian Vettel became world champion for the last time. Since 2014 there was the hegemony of Mercedes where only Ferrari managed to get a few in between. Horner is therefore very happy with the result in Monaco, attributing it mainly to good teamwork.

"It's a great racing team. We have a lot of strength and depth," Horner said at Motorsport-Total.com. "And we've finished first or second in all five races this season. That's a phenomenal achievement when you consider that much of the car was carried over from last year."

Stronger from the pandemic

According to Horner the team has come out of the difficult period around the corona crisis stronger. "The whole team was shaken up, especially during the pandemic, but really grew together. The race in Monaco is proof of that teamwork."

So in Azerbaijan, Red Bull Racing is the team to beat, now the leader in both championships. "That's really encouraging," Horner stressed. "But nobody is going to run away from it. The championship is still hugely long, but the fact that it's so close at the moment is very encouraging."
