Whilst Red Bull Racing had one of their strongest weekends so far this season, the Monaco Grand Prix was a weekend to forget for Mercedes. In qualifying, Lewis Hamilton was already disappointing with a seventh place, and in the race Valtteri Bottas retired from second position. With that, they lost the lead in both championships.

Hamilton is therefore anything but satisfied after the Monaco GP. "It was a bad weekend. We failed collectively," Hamilton acknowledged to the NOS. According to Hamilton, Mercedes had problems with the Pirelli tyres during the race and this cost them a good classification.

Mercedes must learn from their mistakes

"Qualifying was nice, but it's really not a nice track to race on. Even if you are leading it is boring, but Max must have had a nice afternoon. They did a good job". Max Verstappen won the race and now leads the championship, but Hamilton is not worried yet, as the differences are small and the season is still long.

"I am used to it. The fight is close and it will continue for another eighteen races. That is why I went for the fastest lap. That single point can be decisive". Hamilton has already had tough discussions with his team and the last thing has not been said yet."We have to take the hit and I want to answer. Why did we give away three places through our pit stop strategy? How do we make sure this doesn't happen again?"
