Max Verstappen has conquered the lead in the World Championship after a great Sunday afternoon in Monaco. Helmut Marko is logically very pleased with the performance of the 23-year old driver from the Netherlands in the narrow streets of Monte Carlo.
"Great, great," Marko told ServusTV in a first reaction. The Red Bull Racing advisor saw that Verstappen's start was not quite top-notch, but otherwise the 12-time Grand Prix winner was not put under any pressure. "We were firmly in the lead and had everything under control - the tyres, the fuel," he said.
Marko happy with Perez
Not only was it a good day for Verstappen, Perez also had a more than fine Sunday. From eighth place he managed to move up to P4 on the street circuit. "It was a great race, also from Sergio. We lead both championships. It couldn't have gone better," said Marko.
Verstappen is four points ahead of Hamilton in the world championship, while Red Bull has a one-point lead over Mercedes in the constructors' standings.
