Max Verstappen had a great race in Monaco and it brought him victory. He managed to beat an attack from Valtteri Bottas and didn't have any problems after that. The Dutchman booked his 12 victory in Formula 1 and is the new leader in the world championship.

"It's so special around here to win and, also for me, the first time on the podium here," Verstappen told David Coulthard in initial reaction. "It was a great race. It's an amazing race and a lot of laps around here, you really have to keep your focus. It's really cool."

"You never know what's going to happen. It was all about keeping your tyres under control," explained the 23-year-old driver. The pit stop also went flawlessly."The others went earlier, so that made it easier for me. I had it pretty much under control."

"You always want to win this GP. I'm very proud to be here, but the season is still long. This is a good base to move forward with," he concluded.

Hamilton leading the World Championship

The difference with Hamilton is now four points in the World Championship. In two weeks time, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix is scheduled and Verstappen can try to defend his first place.
