The Formula 1 teams are preparing for the fifth race of the season. Red Bull Racing and Mercedes will again be looking to score points at the Monaco Grand Prix but will face competition from Ferrari this weekend. Charles Leclerc was due to start from pole, but his gearbox broke and therefore will not race.

The Italians already showed excellent results in the free practice and continued this form in qualifying. Charles Leclerc recorded the fastest time of Q3 and will therefore start from the front in Monaco despite doubts about his gearbox after a crash. Behind him, Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas will start from second and third on the grid respectively. Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris complete the top five.

A disappointing performance by Hamilton

The performance of Lewis Hamilton on Saturday afternoon could be called disappointing. Where the English driver was still first across the finish line in 2019, the Mercedes driver has to start Sunday's race from seventh position. Considering it is not easy to overtake in Monaco, Hamilton is expected to face a difficult task. And this could create a big swing in the 2021 World Championship.

Sergio Pérez again struggled in qualifying and only recorded the ninth fastest time in Q3. Antonio Giovinazzi closes the top ten. The Italian was a fraction faster than Esteban Ocon, who starts the race from P11. The Haas drivers will once again start from the two rear positions in Monaco.
