Ferrari have taken a significant step forward in 2021 compared to 2020. The Italian team is now fighting with McLaren again for the third spot, but they don't pay much attention to that. In fact, Ferrari is mainly looking at 2022.

Ferrari had a historically bad year in 2020, finishing sixth among constructors. For a team that receives and spends the most money in Formula 1 each year, that's obviously a dramatic performance. In 2021, Ferrari is back to being more upfront, but is not trying to build on that.

Ferrari working hard on 2022

In 2022 completely new regulations will follow in F1, and Ferrari thinks it is only logical to focus all attention on that. ''We are almost completely focused on 2022. If you want to put a number on it, it's about 90 or 95 percent. That's about how much we're working on 2022,'' Laurent Mekies told Autosport.com.

''We've already pushed a lot of our resources forward to 2022. However, that doesn't mean that no details will change on the 2021 car, because we do learn things on the track. However, the focus is on next year, even if it is exciting in the midfield. For us this is a logical decision'', concludes the Ferrari chief.
