Max Verstappen did everything he could, but the Spanish Grand Prix was not won by him. The Dutchman kept Hamilton behind him for a long time, but eventually, he had to give up.

''In a way I did see it coming. On the soft tyre he was already faster at the end, and on the mediums he stayed within a minute. When he stopped for the second time I knew it was over. I was actually a sitting duck," said Verstappen after the race about his great rival Lewis Hamilton.

Resenting Verstappen

"If you're leading, you don't want to go into the pits in traffic. More pace just gives you an advantage. If we had made another pit stop I don't know if we would have been able to join them. We simply lacked pace."

''Today shows that we are not yet where we want to be. We are now a bit slower than them. Of course this is a Mercedes track, and we have made a big step compared to last year, but we want more'', concludes the Dutchman
