Max Verstappen fell just a few hundredths of a second short of pole position in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. Still, he is quite satisfied, especially because he feels he got everything out of it.

Mercedes has the upper hand

For the camera of Ziggo Sport Red Bull Racing's driver says he'd always prefer to start from first place, but he was able to get the most out of it. Especially when you consider the position of the two Mercedes drivers, who are still favourites in his eyes.

"It's not for nothing that you have the two Mercedes cars at the front most of the time and then sometimes I'm in between them, but obviously we still need to find some speed to really beat them. We knew where our weaknesses were, but if you want to go for the championship we really need to go the extra mile, but we know that too," said the Dutchman.

That Verstappen feels he got everything out of his fast lap is interesting. Especially considering the comments of Robert Doornbos, who thought Verstappen might have driven a too fast warm-up lap in his second run. The fact remains, however, that Hamilton and Bottas were not faster in their second run during Q3 either.
