Perez enjoys Marko: 'You don't often come across people like that in Formula 1'

Sergio Perez has completed his first few races for Red Bull Racing. The Mexican still needs to get used to the car, but already feels at home in the team. The relationship with Helmut Marko Perez also calls special.
At Red Bull and AlphaTauri, drivers always get to deal with Helmut Marko. Red Bull's top man scouts talent and guides them to the top. However, he does this in his own unique way. Marko dares to give young talents a chance, but does not hesitate to tell them when it was nothing. Perez experiences the same.
Perez appreciates Marko
''He always tells me what he thinks. If you've done well, he tells you that. And if you've done badly, he says that to you. And not only to you, but also to the outside world, to the media. He is very direct and I have a lot of respect for that, because you don't often come across people like that in Formula 1,'' Perez told Motorsport.com.
''I think we have a good relationship with each other. We get to know each other better and better. Normally we call each other after the race and then he tells me if I did badly or not.''
Perez wants to win
Perez has shown bouts of his talent in the first three races. In Bahrain he drove a phenomenal overtaking race from the back of the grid, and in Imola he was ahead of Max Verstappen on the grid due to a strong qualifying run. However, the Mexican has yet to manage to reach that high level for a whole weekend.
''It's still early in the season, I will have to be patient. In ten races I will know exactly where I stand and what my chances are in the championship. We are only at the beginning and there is no point in overanalysing everything now. Formula 1 seasons are pretty long. It's not about how you start, it's about how you finish in Abu Dhabi,'' Perez concludes.
