Sergio Perez took twelve championship points today by finishing fourth in the Portuguese Grand Prix. He could not follow the pace of Max Verstappen and the Mercedes, but he is still reasonably satisfied.

"It was a bit messy. It started at the start," Perez said in conversation with Sky Sports. On the first lap, he immediately lost ground. "I immediately suffered from wheelspin, so I lost the position to Carlos. After the restart I recovered the position but also lost a place again to Lando."

Perez in no man's land

"I looked in my mirrors at turn five and Lando was completely outside the track limits of the track. I didn't fight it because I thought he would give it back." That didn't happen, but the Mexican was soon back in his 'familiar' fourth position. "It took me a while to get past him and at that point I knew what my race was going to be like from then on."

The 31-year-old then drove in no man's land and had a quiet afternoon. He briefly went for the fastest lap of the race, but in the end Bottas got away with the extra championship point.
