Max Verstappen missed out on his second pole position of the season. He ran wide during his first run and therefore had his time deleted. His second run turned out to be good for a third-place, although the 23-year old driver knows that a place on the first row of the grid would have been possible.

"All qualifying was very difficult to drive, struggling a lot with grip," Verstappen revealed in an initial reaction after qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix."That first lap in Q3 was solid, but I had a big moment in the fourth corner. I was quite confident we could still do a good final lap but the last sector, the car in front just disturbs you. It cost me a lot of lap time, but it is what it is."

The eleven-time Grand Prix winner continued," Of course it's not ideal [starting from the second row of the grid], but we're going to try to battle with them in the race," he concluded.

The Red Bull Racing driver saw Valtteri Bottas set the fastest time in qualifying. Rival and title rival Lewis Hamilton was second, so there's still everything to fight for on Sunday afternoon.
