With Red Bull's current competitive form, Christian Horner and Helmut Marko are not only looking ahead to the title fight with Mercedes this year, but also to the entrance of the engine freeze and takeover of the Honda engine project. Christian Horner is confident that the partnership with Honda will be used to its full potential until the very last moment.
"The biggest challenge for all the manufacturers is the introduction of that new fuel", Red Bull team principal Christian Horner began in conversation with Motorsport.com. A new fuel will be introduced in 2022, which has more environmentally friendly properties compared to the current fuel.
Trouble-free transfer
Horner is confident that the transfer of Honda at the end of the season will be mostly problem-free. Horner: "So Honda, will, whilst they have the resources available to them, look to ensure that we're going into the freeze in the best possible manner that we can be."
"Work is ongoing with that while Honda is still up and running in Sakura [its R&D facility in Japan], before everything is handed over", the Briton continued. In 2025, Red Bull will appear on the grid with an engine designed in-house, which will allow the team to optimise its interplay with the chassis.
