The Red Bull Racing team has made a strong start to the 2021 Formula 1 season. The gap to Mercedes finally seems to have closed, but it remains to be seen which of the teams is strongest over the whole year. Max Verstappen is so far in the same league as Lewis Hamilton. Sergio Perez has also shown speed but has not had a problem-free race so far. Helmut Marko tells us what he expects from the upcoming race weekend in Portugal.

As for Red Bull's goal in Portimao, Marko is clear: "The goal is to get two drivers on the podium in Portugal," he explained in an interview with RTL. "A win would be nice, that's the primary goal." Marko therefore also hopes to see Perez from his best side on Sunday. He could make things difficult for Valtteri Bottas, or perhaps even Lewis Hamilton.

Updates for Red Bull at Portimao

Marko does clarify that Red Bull need to keep performing and winning consistently to have a chance of winning the world title. "That's the only way we can win the championship," he says. However, the Red Bull chief thinks Mercedes still has the advantage. "If you have the time to charge all your batteries and use all the energy, then there is still a certain advantage for Mercedes."

Also, Marko tells us that Red Bull has again brought updates for the race in Portugal. However, these would not be major updates, but it does underline that the team is still fully engaged in developing the 2021 car.
