Although Red Bull seems to be the leader of the field this year, they too will have to start from scratch come 2022, due to the big changes the Formula 1 cars will be subject to after the current season. In an interview Max Verstappen gives his view on the matter.

In conversation with Verstappen.com the Dutchman gives his first impressions of the 2022 race cars, although first of all he acknowledges that for a concrete answer we will have to wait until the cars are actually introduced. "We do already know that the cars will be a lot slower," he begins.

Less grip, equal power

Verstappen continued: "I understand that it will also have very different handling characteristics. The engines remain the same, so with the same or more power and less grip, it won't be easy. We'll see. I think it will go back to the 2014 or 2015 grip levels, so that's a big change."

The look of the cars will also take some getting used to for fans next year, the Red Bull-driver predicts. "They will look very different. But the most important thing is, and we all hope this, that the racing will improve. That's what the fans will like."
