Sergio Perez predicted that he would need a few races to get used to his new car. With an eleventh place in qualifying and - after a great race to catch up - a fifth place in the race that seems to be the case.

Losing time

Perez is clearly losing time on teammate Max Verstappen in a few spots on the track. "The negative is that I lose time in two corners," Perez told Motorsport.com about his tricky qualifying run in Q2. "But because of the way the wind changes and considering you only get one lap, it hasn't been easy to make progression by missing Q3."

Adapting driving style

"There are some specific problems related to the way I drive the car," said Perez who has to adapt his driving style to the car. "Firstly, I have to make sure I drive the way the car should be driven and then work on that. But it takes a while because it's very different from what I'm used to."

Positive weekend

Nevertheless, Perez leaves Bahrain with a positive feeling. "It's positive that the race pace was strong. I was just happy that we could do those kilometres. It's starting to click better and better between the car and me lap by lap."

As a result, the Mexican believes Red Bull will continue to improve. "I think the moment everything comes together, we're going to be pretty strong. We just need to be solid and control the pace well, then we should be fine."
