One of the most exciting factors of the 2020 Formula 1 season was the battle in the midfield, where teams were closely matched and the battle raged until the very last moment. Initial analyses of the current midfield on the grid predict another spectacle.

According to Auto, Motor und Sport the current midfield can be divided into two groups: the teams fighting for the coveted P3 in the constructors' battle and the stragglers jostling for the last remaining points. "Upfront, McLaren, Ferrari and Alpha Tauri are fighting for what the top two teams leave behind. At the rear, Alpine and Aston Martin shouldn't weaken. Otherwise, an Alfa Romeo will take away the points", reports the German medium.

In the battle for the bronze, AlphaTauri seems to have caught up to the competition after the first Grand Prix, the Red Bull sister team seems to have positioned itself optimally against the rest of the field in terms of setup and driver selection.

Despite AlphaTauri's progress, McLaren still remains the midfield favourite according to AMuS. "McLaren is leading the battle for third place in the world championship. Alpha Tauri, Ferrari, Alpine, Aston Martin and Alfa Romeo follow."

Developments at Alfa Romeo

This season also seems to bode well for Alfa Romeo, which has caught up and installed itself firmly into the midfield. Kimi Raikkonen finished eleventh with a minimal gap to Lance Stroll, who secured the final point for Aston Martin.
