Max Verstappen was the fastest man on the track in Bahrain all weekend and also during the winter tests. At the important moment, namely during qualifying, the Dutchman showed how good the RB16B is. Verstappen is very satisfied with this perfect start of the season.
"Of course we already had a great test week. There are no guarantees coming to the first race weekend but the whole week so far the car has been working really well and it's just been really enjoyable to drive," Verstappen said in the post-session interviews after securing his first pole position of the season.
"It all worked out perfectly in qualifying so of course I'm very happy with pole position."
Verstappen knew it was in the bag
Verstappen's final lap was outstanding, as he managed to set three purple sectors. In the end, the Dutchman was almost four-tenths faster than Lewis Hamilton."The wind changing around a lot through every session is not easy to set up the car and it worked out well in qualifying. My first lap in Q3 wasn't amazing, but you never know by how much and then the balance is there & you can push," he explained.
On the chances at Sunday's Grand Prix, Verstappen says: "In general the car has been working really well in short and long runs. I am just looking forward to it. We have a good car. We have a good clean start and first lap."
