With Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin at the wheel, Haas have two rookie drivers this season. The two youngsters should give the failing team new energy and so far they have not disappointed.

Well prepared and positively surprised

Schumacher and Mazepin did not set particularly fast times in Bahrain, but Haas team principal Guenther Steiner was pleased with both of them: "I didn't expect the drivers to be so well prepared and already be at this level. It has created a good atmosphere in the team," he told Speedweek.com.

"Now we have to look to take that over the season. They will learn so much and become so much faster, but we are positively surprised."

Re-energising

A difficult season awaits Haas in spite of this. The car has barely changed from last season and the focus is already on 2022. The main aim of this season is therefore to give the drivers experience.

"We had to create something new to give the team energy, and that's the drivers. They are the ones we want to get to the level they want to be at and the level we want to be at. I am confident that the decision was the right one. Hopefully next year we'll have sharp weapons again," Steiner said of the choice to opt for two rookies.
