Charles Leclerc has been busy this winter. The Ferrari driver has not only had to deal with the coronavirus, but has also spent more time than ever at Ferrari preparing for next season. He is ready to kick off the new Formula 1 season in a few weeks' time, he told Motorsport.com.

Leclerc enters his fourth Formula One season this year, of which he has already spent three seasons with Ferrari. The run-up to this season has been a busy one for the Monegasque, as he is doing all he can to be well prepared. At Ferrari, the driver has analysed his weaknesses and tried to improve them. He worked on his tyre management and drove some laps in Ferrari's old car.

"I don't think I have ever been at Ferrari as much before the real start of the season as I have been this year. We've also done quite a bit of testing with the old car, so I feel completely prepared," he explained.

"I've been working in much the same way as before by trying to understand what my weaknesses were last year. Last year I made a huge step and I hope to make another step this year. That's actually what I did: I tried to look at old races and understand what we could have done better as a team, but also what I could have done better myself in the car to improve my tyre management."

Leclerc fully recovered

Things did take a turn for the Monaco driver a while back when he contracted the coronavirus. After a trip to Dubai he was found to have tested positive for the virus, but has since recovered fully.

"I am fully recovered. Fortunately, it didn't really affect me, so I feel completely fine. I did some physical tests after my infection to make sure everything was back to normal, and it is. So as far as that's concerned it's fine."
