Alexander Albon has had to make way for Sergio Perez at Red Bull Racing in 2021. His role with the team has not ended there. In fact, Albon says he has played an important role in the development of the RB16B in recent months. Something he is quite proud of.

“RB16B has kind of been my winter project a little bit, doing a lot of stuff with the sim", the Thai is quoted by Formula1.com as saying during Red Bull's film day at the Silverstone circuit. "It’s been nice to translate a lot of stuff we’ve done has made it onto the car so it shows all the hard work we’ve done is paying off.”

Albon aims for return

Albon naturally hopes that his role as test and reserve driver will pay off a little more than just some work in the simulator. He will race in the revamped DTM championship next season, but naturally wants to return to Formula 1 in 2022. In the meantime, he is preparing to get in somewhere this season.

“I’ll be going to pretty much every race now, flyaways and European races, a lot of trackside support on the simulator but also just being there. I'm fit, I'm ready to take anyone's space if they need me," said Albon, meaning he could fill in for Red Bull Racing or AlphaTauri.
