Wolff: 'If Lewis stays in Formula 1, we want to do it together'

Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff have probably been the two most talked about people in the F1 paddock this winter. This was mainly due to the uncertainty surrounding the contract negotiations between the two men. The one-year contract that came out of it makes many people doubt the will of Hamilton to continue. In the short term Wolff is not worried about that yet.
"No, there is no doubt about his dedication," the Mercedes team boss is quoted as saying by Motorsport.com. Although he also realises that Hamilton will want to focus on other things in the future. "He is absolutely right, times are changing. We all have new priorities when it comes to living a healthy life. He is very passionate about his initiatives against racism and inequality."
Contract negotiations must change in 2021
So with that knowledge, Wolff was willing to give Hamilton some flexibility, but he stressed that negotiations will be different next season. "We agreed that we will start the negotiations very early this year to avoid having too little time, as we did in 2020."
The question in the negotiations seems simple: does Hamilton want to continue in Formula One? Indeed, according to Wolff, it is highly unlikely that the world champion will leave for another team. "If Lewis stays in Formula 1, we want to do that together. We will talk about that soon."
