After eight seasons away, the Schumacher name is back in Formula 1. After Michael and Ralf Schumacher, it is now Michael's son Mick on the grid. The young Schumacher is eager to learn from his father.
Role model
His father is definitely a role model for Mick Schumacher. The 21-year-old rookie is making his debut with Haas this season and hopes he can take some of his father's experience with him. "There are definitely a few different factors," he told Motorsport-Total.com. "I think for me the biggest factor for a long time has been that you want to have a really strong relationship with the team. And that is really what I strive for and also live by," the German said.
Michael also always knew how to build a good bond with his team, but that is not the only thing Mick wants to learn from his father. "Being as mentally strong as possible in any situation is something I think is very important," he said.
Conversations about his father
Jock Clear is Schumacher's driver coach, having previously worked with Mick's father as well. "I think the first time I really worked with him like that was in 2014. I had a simulation session with him, which was really funny. And very interesting for me."
Michael Schumacher was also discussed in their conversations. "Of course we had different conversations and discussions about what working with the different drivers was like for him and how that compared to my father. I took a lot of notes and I am definitely looking forward to working even more closely with him this year," said the Haas driver.
