Hamilton's father speaks out: "Don't think record is target"

Lewis Hamilton extended his contract with Mercedes for one year last week. The Brit currently has seven world titles and could try for his eighth in 2021, which would put him at the pinnacle of the record books. According to Father Anthony, however, another title is not the 36-year-old's priority.
“They’ve [Hamilton and Mercedes] had a long relationship together," Lewis' father told talkSPORT. Anthony Hamilton continued: "I think loyalty is quite important in this world nowadays, so it’s nice to see them coming together for another year."
Record is not the goal
That Hamilton has extended his contract with Mercedes is therefore not because he necessarily wants to win his eighth world championship. "I don’t think the record is the target… there’s a realisation that obviously he’s getting older and wants to do other things in life." The foundation that Hamilton and Mercedes are going to set up has also contributed in large part to the fact that there is now an agreement.
"There’s more to life than racing, but for now he’s happy to do another year," adds Anthony. Hamilton not only has 23 Grands Prix to win a new title. There are other records he can still break in 2021.
