Sergio Perez is Red Bull Racing's new driver for 2021 and so he was given a tour of the new factory. The tour included a visit to Adrian Newey, who impressed him.

Perez impressed

Adrian Newey has been Red Bull's car designer for many years. The master designer was behind Sebastian Vettel's championship cars, but he also designed cars at McLaren and Williams that would go on to win the world title. The fact that he still does all this with a drawing sometimes causes surprised looks.

The world has moved on from Newey's early years in Formula 1. Now engineers can design a car entirely in a computer, but that is not for Newey. ''Adrian still has a drawing board," you can hear Christian Horner say in Red Bull's video. However, that does attract Perez's interest.

''You're drawing there? Can I see it?", asks the curious Mexican, who is then impressed. ''Wow, this is great.'' Adrian himself remains fairly level-headed about it. ''This is what I grew up with. I'm faster with this than people who work with computer programmes. So I'm still pretty fast,'' says Newey.

''I'm very impressed to see his drawing machine. It is very impressive. Every time you walk by he is drawing something. The way he talks to you as a driver also says something. He really knows what you are talking about. It is as if you are talking to another driver," concludes Perez.
