With around 60% of the Formula 1 car of 2021 the same as last year's car, the question arises: how will the teams make the decisive difference in the battle for the constructors' title? The two tokens available to each team this winter could well be the key to winning, although AlphaTauri's Jody Egginton believes otherwise.

Egginton, technical director of Red Bull's sister team, believes that the strategic spending of tokens will not affect the differences between the teams, and that this is not a priority for his team. "I don't think the tokens will make any difference to the aerodynamic concept," Egginton told Motorsport-Total.com.

"Everyone will use their tokens for something. But I don't think that will be the main differentiator that determines the order," Egginton continued. What this would mean is that the differences that emerged between teams in 2020 will largely live on towards the new title fight. More relevant to AlphaTauri, however, is the midfield, which Egginton also sees as mostly the same: "I'm expecting a very narrow midfield again. But I don't know the order."

With a battle in midfield in mind, Egginton does dare to set a concrete goal for the team: "We know our goals. We think that we will be in the fight if we achieve them. The goal is to get into the top 5… If nobody makes a mistake, then it should be tight Hopefully we're not the ones making the mistake!" In 2020, AlphaTauri's performance was good enough for seventh place in the constructors' classification.
