The name Schumacher is inextricably linked with Formula 1, and next season a new member of the family gets to showcase his talent. Mick Schumacher can't wait to get started and work with the best people in motorsport.

That Mick Schumacher would one day make an appearance in Formula 1 seemed a certainty. With the growth that the young driver has shown in recent years, he can now prove himself quicker than expected at the Haas team. He immediately has a nice challenge in the form of fellow rookie Nikita Mazepin.

The son of Michael Schumacher would however not have said no to an experienced and strong teammate, which is exactly what the driver likes. "I simply love the competition, I love racing and the hard battles on the track. When you do that perfect lap in qualifying and you win a race, that feeling is indescribable. It fills you with joy when you manage to drive all sectors in purple. And I love working with so many different geniuses, because motorsport is very advanced in every aspect," Schumacher told Formula1.com.

Father as idol

Yet the Haas driver is not in love with every aspect of Formula One. "You don't spend much time with your family. You are often on the road and you don't see your family as often as you would have a 9 to 5 job. However, as drivers we have our passion as our job and I really enjoy my sport, so it's very easy for me to make that sacrifice and enjoy every moment," continued the young German.

Many of Schumacher's colleagues who have entered the sport in recent years have a world champion as an idol and it is no different for the rookie. "My father of course! I definitely look at what he has achieved and try to learn from that. He has been the benchmark for so long and for me he is still the benchmark, so I always refer to him. I also admire him for his human side and how he has always remained with his feet on the ground. That is something I really appreciate, but also something I take with me into my career," concludes Mick Schumacher.
