For Carlos Sainz, his first test for Ferrari at Fiorano is now over. He was given a day and a half to get used to the team's working methods in the 2018 SF71H. As such, he was given more time than the other drivers on the grid this week. He therefore wants to give a lot back to the team and the fans.

Sainz is a driver from the Red Bull family, who has found his way to one of the most coveted seats in Formula 1 after detours at Renault and McLaren. That is where he now wants to achieve his goals. "From the first day I started karting I only had two goals in mind: To become a Formula One driver and to win the world title," he said after the test to Racing Activities, Ferrari's in-house magazine.

Taking Ferrari back to the top

"After achieving the first goal, all my energy and efforts are focused on trying to achieve the second and there is no better place than Ferrari to do this. The ambition is to help create a winning team, take the Scuderia back to the top, where it should be, and take the world title."

A clear mission, but is it realistic in the short term, given the huge dip in form that Ferrari have recently endured? "Every team goes through difficult times, that's part of Formula 1, but what matters is the ability to respond. History shows that teams that have won in the past are able to be competitive again. I am convinced we will achieve that soon," said an optimistic Sainz.
