Imola returns to the Formula 1 calendar again this year, a welcome change for many fans of the sport. Giancarlo Minardi, founder of the former Minardi team and president of the Imola circuit, hopes Ferrari can show great things in their home country.

History returns on Formula 1 calendar

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is scheduled to be the second race on the 2021 calendar, following the announced postponement of the Australian Grand Prix. 2020 wasn't exactly a successful season for Ferrari, but Minardi hopes they can find some of their old form again in 2021.

"Imola will be the first Grand Prix in Europe, so the season will still be open. And since dreaming is free, as a sportsman I hope to see Ferrari close behind the top teams," Minardi told Il Resto del Carlino. "That makes it fun for the public, whether they are in the stands or in front of the television."

Minardi himself has a long history with the circuit. "I have competed in 21 of the 26 Grands Prix at Imola. The region has a lot to offer in terms of history of two- and four-wheelers. That Imola is now back on the calendar makes me proud," Minardi said.
