Liberty Media recently extended its contract with Sao Paulo for the Brazilian Grand Prix until 2025, but the new agreement between the Brazilian city and the promoter may not be legally valid. A judge is going to rule on the matter in the near future.

The Brazilian newspaper Folha de S. Paulo wrote that the new contract was suspended by a judge on Monday. It is not a contract with the signature of Liberty Media, but an agreement between the city of Sao Paulo and the new promoter MC Brazil Motorsport. According to the judge, there was no proper tendering procedure.

Judge wants an explanation

The city of Sao Paulo allegedly signed a contract with MC Brazil Motorsport in secret. Other companies / promoters have not had the chance to compete for the organization of the Brazilian Grand Prix. The court has now given Sao Paulo five days to come up with relevant documents.

MC Brazil Motorsport is an organization that was founded only a few weeks ago and therefore has no experience in organizing such large-scale events. The whole tendering process seems to be a shady one, but the judges in Brazil will rule on that soon.
