Williams has strengthened its bond with Mercedes. As of 2022 the team from Grove will be driving several parts of Mercedes in order to make new steps in the hope that the team can get out of the lower region of the grid.
More than an engine supplier
Williams announced on its own website that from 2022 the team will not only drive with Mercedes engines, but will also take over the gearbox and important hydraulic components from the German team. So far Williams have done all this themselves.
Simon Roberts, team boss of Williams, is satisfied with the new deal. "I'm pleased to see our great relationship with Mercedes extend beyond the supply of engines." Roberts said it is a long-term deal and sees it as a positive and strategic step for the future. This will allow the team itself to focus more on other areas. Other parts of the chassis will continue to be made by Williams.
Deal has been on the way for some time now
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff also sees the new deal with Williams positively: "We are pleased to expand our technical cooperation with Williams through this new agreement. We are pleased to expand our technical cooperation with Williams through this new agreement."
