Max Chilton has designated his best driver and best team of the past Formula 1 season. The 29-year old Briton who competed in 35 Grands Prix in the pinnacle of motorsport chooses Lewis Hamilton and McLaren, although Max Verstappen does get a special mention.

"Max Verstappen deserves a special mention for getting the most out of the Red Bull all season long," said Chilton in conversation with GQ Magazine. However, his choice does not fall on the Dutchman. "But it has to be Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton notched up his 95th F1 win on his way to his record-equalling seventh championship win and to claim the title with a fair few races to go was an incredible achievement. What a driver!"

McLaren very good in 2020

It was the seventh season in a row that Mercedes secured the world title. Yet in the eyes of the former Marussia driver, Mercedes was not the best formation in 2020. He opts for McLaren. "They have done an amazing job considering where they have come from and have pushed Red Bull and Mercedes this year."

In the last Grand Prix of the year in Abu Dhabi, McLaren secured himself a third place in the constructors' championship. "No one could have predicted their rise in preseason and it should set them up nicely for next year. Let's hope for the sake of the sport that they and Red Bull can really pressure Mercedes in 2021," said Chilton.
