The Renault team has had a pretty successful season in Formula 1, with Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon both scoring podiums. But Renault also had an eye of their junior drivers in the lower classes in 2020.

In the End of Season review of the Renault Sport Academy, team boss Cyril Abiteboul looks back on the 2020 season. Among other things, he points out that it was a difficult season for everyone because of the coronavirus, and that the team is happy that their young drivers were also able to finish the season.

Disappointed in Formula 2 juniors

In addition, Abiteboul says they are proud of their juniors who won races, but also that they expected more from some drivers. "Oscar Piastri's Formula 3 title was an incredible moment that we are very proud of. On the other hand, we had hoped for more from Guanyu Zhou and Christiaan Lundgaard in Formula 2."

"We are a little disappointed with the results of sixth and seventh places in the championship, despite some victories and podiums. We know all drivers can do better, and they know they have to do better next year to make progress in the Academy," Abiteboul said.
