Marko dares to hope for 2021 title with these two assets
- GPblog.com
Helmut Marko wants to be right on Mercedes' heels and go for the world title with Red Bull Racing in 2021. Not only will further development of the car in 2020 help them with that, also an ever better Verstappen and Honda that will deliver a stronger engine will come them to aid.
Verstappen biggest asset
From the first race in Melbourne, the Red Bull advisor wants to take the lead. And according to the Austrian, it looks like the team, together with star driver Verstappen, will be able to make it happen in 2021. "He's getting better and better," says Marko to Formel1.de. "Only in Turkey he wasn't patient enough, but the rest, Fantastic!
"Also his qualifying round in Abu Dhabi. He is so mature now." That's why Red Bull thinks they are strong enough to go for the title in 2021. The team hasn't stopped developing the 2020 car, so they think they will be close to Mercedes in 2021. Secondly, Honda hasn't been sitting still either.
Honda second trump
In addition to the exceptional form of Max Verstappen, Marko thinks he has a second major trump card for 2021; Honda's stronger engine. Next year will be the last year in which the team will receive full factory support from Honda. The Austrian sees this as a great opportunity.
"It is very encouraging. We know where we stand and there is good news from Honda. There are improvements to the engine. So we will be strong from the first race."
