Red Bull Racing finished second among the constructors in 2020 and Max Verstappen once again settles for third place in the standings. This was not what was hoped for, but Helmut Marko knows why.

Another slow start for Red Bull

Prior to the Formula 1 season of 2020, Red Bull and Honda had high expectations. According to Helmut Marko they had the best winter ever and this had to be the year in which Verstappen would become world champion. However, it turned out to be different, because Mercedes were once again on top.

''With a little more luck we could have won in Mugello, Turkey or the second race in Bahrain," says Marko to Auto, Motor und Sport.

Marko regrets that his team has not managed to be there from the start in 2020 either. ''We always start too late. It was at the front wing this year. It determines everything for the rest of the aerodynamics, and once we'd done that, we could get on with the rest of the car. From Mugello you saw successful steps forward," says Marko, who also points to the outdated wind tunnel.

''The contradictions are also due to our wind tunnel. That's an older model and apparently it doesn't have the right information for the wider cars. This has now been seen and also partly solved," concludes Marko. The question now is whether all this is enough to compete for the world title in 2021.
