Robert Doornbos hopes that Sergio Perez will be able to take the seat next to Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing in 2021. According to the former Formula 1 driver Alexander Albon has not proven himself enough this season.

Verstappen misses a strong teammate

According to Doornbos, Red Bull lack a strong second driver next to Verstappen. "The second man is very important. Especially if you want to attack for the constructors title. Then you need a second man who can defend Max," said Doornbos in his column.

"And at the end of the race in Abu Dhabi it seemed that that's the situation you want. An Albon that can put pressure on Hamilton. Albon drove a very good race and had a good qualification. But is it enough to secure his contract? In theory not."

Perez the right driver?

Rumours have been going around that Christian Horner and Helmut Marko have turned their eyes to the qualities of Perez. "Perez is the man who this year has had one of the most steady races alongside Lewis Hamilton. It would be a shame for Formula 1 if she doesn't find the Mexican a place in 2021. And the only place left is next to Max."
