Alexander Albon finished fourth in Abu Dhabi and Red Bull Racing were very satisfied with the performance of the Thai driver. Whether it is enough to force a seat for 2021 we will find out later this week, as the team wants to make the decision this week. In any case, Albon played a role in securing the victory for Verstappen, which was virtually out of the question earlier this season.

Strongest day for Albon

This is the conclusion of Martin Brundle, who reflected on the last race of the season in his column for Sky Sports . "Alex Albon arguably had his strongest day all season from a team perspective, passing Lando Norris with a nice move and then staying well within the pit stop window of both Mercedes."

An interesting point, because until now Verstappen was mostly fighting the two Mercedes on his own, and with pit stops some things can be done. That becomes more difficult when two cars are involved, something that Red Bull Racing really needs if they want to make life difficult for the Silver Arros.

Ammunition to keep Albon

Brundle: "It took away their (Mercedes) opportunity to try something different with one car on a second stop in order to try to destabilize Verstappen's metronomic progress out front. Albon was the fastest car on track in the final quarter of the race and closed to within a second and a half of Hamilton, and four seconds of Bottas who finished second."

"For those in the team keen to retain Albon next season, it provided timely ammunition."
