Max Verstappen was again unable to compete for the title this season. Red Bull Racing's car was no match for the dominant Mercedes. Verstappen hopes that the team will be able to get one step closer to Mercedes in 2021, although he does know that beating Mercedes will be a difficult task.

Criticism at Red Bull

"Some people act as if we are last on the grid or something like that," says Verstappen in the press conference according to De Telegraaf. "You have to remember that we are up against a team, Mercedes, which is a well-oiled machine. Of course, I want to compete for wins and championships, but we are still driving as the second-best team."

The Dutchman does not agree with the criticism that is often aimed at the RB16. "It's not as dramatic as people sometimes talk about us and the car. Of course, it will be difficult to beat Mercedes next season as well, but Red Bull never gives up. The team spirit is enormous," says Verstappen about his team.

One last go in 2020

Verstappen hopes to be able to win again in Abu Dhabi so that he does not get stuck on one victory in 2020. This will be difficult because Mercedes are generally very fast on the Yas Marina Circuit.
