George Russell drove fantastically as a replacement for Lewis Hamilton in Bahrain. Due to the enormous bad luck at the end of the race, he was unfortunately not rewarded for that. Many want him to get a second chance, but it is still uncertain whether he will get one.

That will depend entirely on Lewis Hamilton's test result. He tested positive for Covid-19 over a week ago and is only allowed into the paddock of Abu Dhabi if he tests negative now.

Russell can now show what he's really made off

"We are waiting for Lewis' test result. If Hamilton tests negative then he will take his place in the Mercedes," Russell said at the press conference in Abu Dhabi too, among others, Formule1.nl. So he leaves no doubt that if Hamilton tests negative, Russell will not get another chance in the Mercedes.

It would be very sour for Russell if this were to remain the case, especially since he thinks he can be even better now. "Last Friday I had to get to know the car and now I can start fine-tuning the setup right away. Last week I drove Lewis' setup, but of course, I'm not Lewis. He is a good benchmark."
