Binotto reviews Ferrari's crash with Perez and Verstappen: "Ends any discussion"

7 December 2020 at 07:32

Mattia Binotto does not want to go into too much detail about whether Charles Leclerc was to blame for the crash during the first lap of the Sakhir Grand Prix. The Ferrari team boss respects the judgment of the stewards. The young Monegasque received a three-place grid penalty for next week in Abu Dhabi.

Leclerc hit Sergio Perez at turn 4. The end result was that Leclerc and Max Verstappen retired in Bahrain. "Charles’ race ended after just four corners when he collided with Perez, whom we congratulate by the way for his first Formula 1 win. The Stewards investigated the incident and have imposed a three-place grid penalty on Charles for the next race in Abu Dhabi, so that ends any discussion about the rights or wrongs of it all," Binotto said.

Vettel cannot benefit

Sebastian Vettel remained in the race, but the four-time world champion could not take advantage of the chaos in the front. "As for Sebastian, it’s a shame we could not get a single point out of such a crazy race. We have to look ahead, get this season done and then concentrate fully on next year," said the 51-year-old Italian. the team review.

Ferrari had more success in Formula 2 this weekend. Mick Schumacher took the title, while Callum Ilott finished in second place during the feature race. Robert Shwartzman managed to claim fourth place.
